Despite Everything Going On – I Believe In Better Days

What a time to be alive! Between a worldwide pandemic and daily riots and protests, every day brings with it a new “surprise.” It often leaves us to feel helpless and anxious, as we cannot control so many of the things that are happening. Each day the news shocks me even more and I don’t even know what’s going on any longer. Not much makes sense to me these days. But despite everything going on – I believe in better days.

It makes it hard sometimes to get up and function, but I must endure, especially for my three children who are watching my every move. I don’t have the luxury or the desire to give up. The good Lord put me on this earth for a reason, and I will persevere.

We see all the divisions within our country. Not to mention the regular bad, heartbreaking news each day of murders and more. Rarely do we hear about happy and positive things happening, but they are. You’ll see the good when you look at your children, or in your local community. I am blessed to say that in my 31 years of life, I have not endured any of this hate and horrible happenings that are being shown in the news 24/7.

I am from a small town and everyone knows about everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re black, brown, white, or purple. If you are kind to others, they will be kind to you. I’m so thankful to have been brought up that way and I don’t consider that a race privilege, I consider it an upbringing done right. Never in my life have I experienced or heard the hate that spews from so many featured on the news here lately, and that shows me there are bound to be plenty of others out there like me. I would give the shirt off my back to help someone if they came to me and I don’t care about their race or their past. We all have a past, if someone is trying and needs help, we should try to help them.

Life is short and I want to live it happily and as peacefully as possible. I teach my children how to show kindness and each day they make me proud. Still, there are so many other areas with people that are hurting every day. It breaks my heart that there is so much misplaced hate in our country, in our world right now.

But I will continue on, as we all should. Remember that throughout history, there have been many pandemics and crazy things happening in the world. People used to gather and watched beheadings and hangings for fun for goodness sake! They would take their entire family (kids too) and watch people be killed. Yes, we have come a long way from those times.

Many people try to fear monger and make us believe that it’s the end of times and our lives are over. I do believe it’s the end of some things, but I don’t believe it’s the end of everything. And even if it was the end of times, we cannot control that either. What we can control is how we live our lives and how we treat others. Now more than ever is the time to stay productive and continue making your life the best that it can be. Don’t let fear, anxiety, negative people, or the news determine your outlook and your outcome on your life.

Think of this as a time for a new beginning. Without rain, you cannot have a beautiful rainbow. Without pain or struggle, you never truly experience the good in life. Take time to step away from the news and the negative folks. Look around you, there is always beauty everywhere. Each day that we awake is another day to be thankful for. There are still good people in this world doing good things, be one of those people. That’s why despite everything going on – I believe in better days.

I believe that the bad things happening currently are going to bring good in the aftermath. We just have to hold strong and persevere. And we must believe that better days are ahead. Remember, we all bleed red. We are all the same, we are all human. The change starts at home, the change starts with us. So, hug your children and show them that you love them daily, call your parents just to talk. Help out the neighbor across the street. Pray. Spread joy, be thankful, and press forward.
