I Won’t Stop

For the past few years, as hard as it is to admit, I have started to let myself go. From four pregnancies and the loss of a child, my body and mind have been through hell and back. I won’t stop.

 

Starting to feel my clothes getting tighter and only feeling comfortable in high-waisted leggings, I realized that it was time for a change.

 

The change didn’t happen right away. It wasn’t something that I just started immediately and stuck with.

 

My change happened in August 2020 (crazy year, right) after multiple failed attempts at committing to change.

 

Before August, I tried many workout programs at home. I couldn’t stick with them more than a couple of weeks or so before just blowing them off, becoming unmotivated, and quitting altogether.

 

My nutrition was absolutely horrid! It’s not the best now either, don’t get me wrong. But I am actually trying. I don’t drink several glasses of wine every night. I don’t eat several cookies for one snack. And I don’t grab fast food every few days.

 

What I started to do in August is finally commit to myself. No more excuses. No more feeling this way. I am ready for change. My final aha moment was discovering Beachbody. It may not be for everyone, but it’s everything for me!

 

My inspiration comes from other bloggers and folks that I follow on Instagram. It also comes from me, and the amazing progress that I have made and continue to make.

 

I won’t stop.

 

If I have a bad day (there’s plenty of those this year) I won’t beat myself up for eating junk or drinking a glass of wine. If I’m stressed and feeling upset, it’s okay to take a break and rest. Hello good book and bubble bath, Netlfix I’ll see you after a while.

 

I won’t stop trying for myself and committing to the best version of myself. That’s not all about weight and appearance, but how the loss of weight gives me more energy and how it makes me feel. I feel more confident, strong, and able.

Losing Weight- The Ultimate Guide

Losing Weight

If you’re anything like me and a lot of others out there, you may be unhappy with your current weight and energy level. Maybe it’s the weight that you’ve always carried, or you gained from having a child, or even the quarantine 15 pounds. As we age, it gets harder to lose weight and feel great. It’s especially hard finding the time and motivation to commit to eating better and working out.

We have jobs, kids and families, school, and a million other commitments. Just give me a faster way to fat loss! The first step in the journey is to commit that you will start trying to make small changes daily to meet your end goal.

 

What Doesn’t Work

I can tell you from personal experience a few things that will not help you to be successful long-term on your fitness and healthy lifestyle journey.

  • Fad Diets These almost always fail. You end up starving yourself on some fad diets, missing out on important vitamins that your body needs, and it also puts a dent in your wallet. Sure, you may feel great for a while, but it’s so easy to lose focus on these fad diets.
  • Trying All the Workout Programs at Once If you start on several different workout programs around the same time, it will be increasingly difficult to see results. You will become burnt out before you even have a chance to achieve your goals.
  • Restricting Foods 24/7 If you start to deny yourself your favorite foods all of the time, you will be unhappy and more likely to binge eat these unhealthy foods.
  • Thinking Vitamins and Supplements Are the Cure Vitamins and supplements can be great for your body, as long as you take the right amount and types for you. However, vitamins and supplements can’t “cure” anything. They shouldn’t be meant to always replace, but to pair with healthy eating and exercise.

 

What Does Work- A Faster Way to Fat Loss

Now that we have what not to do out of the way, let’s discuss how to achieve our fitness and nutrition goals. Because we can’t achieve total health without fitness and nutrition. They go hand-in-hand, as well as our mental state and awareness.

  • Setting Goals Try writing out daily, weekly, or monthly goals. Include long-term and short-term. Look at these goals regularly and reward yourself when you complete them.
  • Finding the Right Program There are so many workout programs and food plans to choose from these days. I suggest researching them out and pick some of your favorites and then commit to one. Give it at least a couple of weeks, and if it absolutely is not working for you, try something else.
  • Taking Before and After Photos This is so important! You should take pictures of yourself in activewear or form-fitting clothing so that you can see your results. Take a front view, side view, and back view of yourself at the beginning of your journey. Also, it’s a great idea to take your measurements. A scale doesn’t tell everything, it doesn’t tell the water weight or muscle weight. Pictures and measurements will tell you so much more. And give you an amazing feeling when you compare them after a workout program or after a few weeks.
  • Eating Better That’s a no-brainer, right? But it is so hard to do with a busy schedule. Try swapping a meal each day for a healthier version. Start small. Protein shakes are a great idea to replace unhealthy snacks and to fight off cravings.
  • Drinking Water Aim to drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. Adjust that based on your weight.
  • Rest Make sure that you’re getting plenty of restful sleep each night. Our muscles repair when we sleep, thus, you will recover from workouts more quickly and grow muscle faster if you get plenty of rest.

 

My Personal Success and Recommendations

The above photo is my personal journey progress. On the left, is August 2020. On the right, is October 2020. Here is what I did to achieve these results in only two months:

  • (Mostly) Cut out soda and wine I still have the occasional soda or glass of wine, but for the most part, I’ve eliminated them. I always felt bloated and was gaining weight quickly when drinking them daily. Now that I don’t drink soda and wine so much, I rarely crave them.
  • Protein Shakes I began drinking 1-2 protein shakes each day to replace a meal or snack. It helps to curb cravings and makes me feel great, I have a lot more energy. Lady Boss Lean is amazing and tastes great. I’m also about to try out Shakeology, I have heard so many great things about it and it’s said to be one of the best shakes on the market.
  • Eating Healthier My main issue with food was eating too much junk food too often, and fast food. I still have a treat every now and then and fast food maybe once a month. Cutting back on these unhealthy foods also helps me not to crave them as much and gives me more energy.
  • Vitamins & Supplements I take a daily multivitamin for women, Beachbody Performance Energize to get ready for workouts, and Beachbody Performance Recover after workouts. (I love it- It tastes like chocolate milk!).
  • My Workout This is what I contribute to most of the weight loss transformation. I have tried several different workout programs in the past but I just couldn’t stay motivated enough to stick with them. Then I discovered Beachbody and it has literally changed my life. I have completed two Beachbody programs (one four weeks, one six weeks) to achieve these results. I love how I can stream my workout anytime, anywhere and the trainers are awesome. It never feels like I’ve worked out hard for nearly an hour once it’s over, it goes by so fast. I stay motivated and actually look forward to working out each day. I never thought that would happen!

Earning Money

One of my favorite things about Beachbody is that you can earn money while doing what you’re already doing. If you become a coach, you get to help others on their journey while making an income. It’s a win-win situation for me. Other workout programs don’t have coaches who regularly reach out and check on you and motivate you. I actually feel like I am part of something, a team with Beachbody.

Wrapping It Up

Losing weight is a process. There is no magic pill or supplement or program to make you lose weight overnight. If you truly want to lose weight, you have to commit to it and to yourself. You deserve to be happy in your own skin and have the energy to live and enjoy your life. I find that accomplishing these things is so much easier when you’re on a team with people who are on similar paths.

Fall Nails- Get A Perfect Mani and Pedi at Home

Most women love to get their nails did. Whether it’s the experience in itself at a salon, the feeling of being pampered, or the aftermath. Beautiful nails that make you feel confident! With the current pandemic going on, many of us are choosing to do our own nails at home. Some of us always prefer to do it ourselves. Fall nails are perfectly possible at home!

Not only is it a safer option at times to do nails at home, but it also can save money. You can still enjoy all the pampering at home yourself.

Fall Nails- Get A Perfect Mani and Pedi at Home

1. Purchase a nail kit

There are many nail kits available online these days. One that I love is Modelones Gel Nail Polish set in Autumn colors. The kit comes in an adorable box to store the polishes in. It includes a base and top coat as well as 16 different fall colors. This kit costs less than $30 for everything you need for at-home gel nails, minus the UV light.

 

 

 

2. UV Light for Quick Drying & Gel Drying

A UV LED light is a must-have for at-home nails. I purchased this one off of Amazon and it works great. It has three different timing settings, depending on the polish type.

 

 

3. Manicure Set

You will also need a manicure set to perfect your nails at home. There are many options available, make sure the kit you purchase includes a push stick for cuticles, nail clippers, and a file. Most kits will include many other items as well that may be useful to you.

 

4.  Nail Art

When it comes to nail art, there are so many options. From pens to stamps and stick on and everything in between. I would recommend trying out a few different options to see which that you prefer.

 

 

Fall Nails Design

Now that you have everything that you need for doing your nails at home, it’s time for the fun part! Fall nails design inspiration. If you aren’t very artistically talented, that’s fine. You can stick to just colors or use the many decor tools out there to help you achieve these looks.

 

Leopard Nails- Leopard print is very popular right now, try your hand at this trendy manicure!

Pumpkin Nails- If you’re artistic you could draw pumpkins on your nails. If not, you could use pumpkin nail stickers.

Leaf Accent- This gorgeous manicure would be fairly simple to do. On your accent nail, draw on leaf design or use a stencil or stick on for nails. You could finish it off with nail gems.

Sparkles- Transform your nails easily by adding some sparkle.

Matte- If matte is your style, paint nails similar to this and add an accent if you wish.

Ombre Halloween Nails- This look can easily be achieved with two different polish colors and accent nail design.

Country Heat by Beachbody- My Honest Review

Country Heat– It all started with a DVD set

A little intro and history about myself before we dive into the Country Heat review. I am 31 years old and I have carried and birthed four children. So naturally, that takes a toll on the body and its ability to “bounce back.” After my last baby, the weight didn’t just fall off as it had with my previous pregnancies.

Before a couple of years ago, I never worked out. I always ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and my body didn’t put on too much weight. It’s always been hard for me to stick to a workout plan or eating plan and commit. This time was different. I had purchased the Country Heat program several years ago when it was only available on DVD.

Well, I never even opened it! After trying several other workout programs and groups, I decided to give it a try. So I dug out the DVD set and got started. A little over 30 days ago something just went off in my head and I knew I had to make a change. I had gained the Quarantine 15 plus some, and I was so tired all the time and disappointed with my body. I want the abs and the energy, and I’m ready to put in the work!

 

Time for Change- Will Country Heat by Beachbody really work?

Finally opening my Country Heat DVD’s was the best decision that I have ever made for my health and fitness journey. Beachbody’s Country Heat is a program like none other. This program lasts 30 days, so you workout 30 minutes most days (one hour on conditioning days) and you have Sundays off for rest days. Autumn Calabrese is the trainer of Country Heat and many other Beach Body programs. She is a celebrity trainer who has worked with many big-time folks and she also used to compete in fitness competitions.

So yes- Autumn knows what she is doing! She has a fun way of making the workouts feel like they are just a dance. It never feels like you’ve been working out 30+ minutes after it’s over, other than all of the sweat. This program made me actually want to put the DVD in each day and see what new workout we’d be doing. Other workout programs would lose my interest fast- this definitely did not.

 

My Results

They say the scale doesn’t matter, and I must agree. After completing the 30-day program, I have only lost 3lbs, starting at 148lbs and ending at 145lbs. However, my pictures and measurements tell so much more. I lost 4″ around my waist and 1.5″ around my hips. That’s not bad at all for a 30-day workout program with Sundays off! Food Plan

I actually didn’t do a food plan or the Shakeology, but I plan on trying the Shakeology soon as I have heard so many great things about it. Cutting out soda and wine really helped me. I used to drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine almost daily, and I cut that out to maybe a glass once a week or so. My new grown-up beverage of choice is White Claw hard seltzer- low sugar, low calories, and many flavors to choose from. I quit drinking soda cold turkey and now when I try to drink it, it tastes gross. I try to make healthier eating choices and cut out junk food, but I don’t sit and count calories all day or only eat certain things.

If I have a piece of cake, for example, I keep the rest of my day eating healthier choices. I don’t completely deprive myself of treats but I don’t overdo it anymore. Cutting out fast food (for the most part) has also really helped. And drinking lots of water! I also use Lady Boss Lean for my protein shakes, I’ll have those once or twice a day for a snack or postworkout treat. My favorite flavor is cake and it tastes amazing. Lady Boss also has other flavors of Lean and a variety of other workout and performance products geared towards women.

 

 

How Much Does It Cost?

Since I had the DVD set, I didn’t have to purchase anything else to do the Country Heat program. However, now Beach Body has everything available online and on their app, called Beach Body On Demand.

Here are the regular Beach Body On Demand payment options:

  • 12 month plan $99
  • 6 month plan $59
  • 14-Day Free Trial then $39 every 3 months

Once you have access to Beach Body On Demand, you have access to their entire library of fitness programs and several nutrition programs as well.

I recommend purchasing a Challenge Pack when you first start, you save a lot of money this way. I purchased a challenge pack for my upcoming program. So how the Challenge Packs work: You pick the program that you want to do and each program offers certain materials such as Shakeology, Beach Body Performance, nutrition containers, and so on. And with most challenge packs, you also get access to Beach Body on Demand for a whole year, that’s $100 right off the bat. It’s a win-win.

Beach Body also gives everyone their own coach when you sign up. If you ever need help, advice, or encouragement, just reach out. They also have groups that start programs together and share results and motivate each other. Beach Body really is the complete package.

 

Lastly

I would 100% recommend Beach Body’s Country Heat program. Who knew that you could dance your pounds away?! Finding my Country Heat DVD’s and finally starting the program was the best decision that I ever made for my healthy lifestyle. I am starting a new Beach Body program on Monday called #mbf, I’ll add a review with those results after I complete the program.

Throw an Epic Halloween Party At Home

Maybe you don’t want to go out this Halloween or maybe you can’t afford a babysitter. Or perhaps most events are canceled this year. Here are ways that you can throw an epic Halloween party at home and still have a ghostly good time. These ideas are perfect for families, there’s something fun for everyone to do.

Halloween is such a fun time of year and it can be an awesome event. The cool, crisp air, and the goodies and scares, there is so much to enjoy during Halloween!

 

Spooky Music

Set the tone of the party with Halloween music! There are so many Halloween songs and playlists for little kids up to teenagers. Save the really spooky music for later in the evening. I like playing music videos on tv using youtube, or use wireless speakers and play music from your phone or computer.

 

Pumpkin Decorating

Have everyone decorate or carve a pumpkin at the beginning of the party. Then set up the pumpkins for decor and everyone can vote for their favorites. Younger kids will especially enjoy this, but older kids (and adults) will too! All you need are pumpkins, paint and brushes, and some carving tools.

Scary Movies

If you have older kids, have some scary movies to watch or even have an old, creepy black-and-white movie just playing in the background while everyone enjoys the party fun. Halloweentown and Casper are great movies for younger kids to watch. And of course, Hocus Pocus is a great Halloween movie for everyone of all ages. If you want scarier movies, “It” is a popular choice. The Children of the Corn movies always freaked me out a bit.

Costume Contest

You just can’t have a Halloween party without dressing up. Have everyone pick out costumes as they would any other normal year for Halloween, and host a costume contest in the living room. If you have several youngsters, have small prizes for each so that the little kids don’t feel left out. Didn’t have time to shop for a costume this year? Use what you have around the house and see who can come up with the coolest costume ideas.

Bake Halloween Goodies

There are so many spooky and tasty treats that you can bake up for your Halloween party. Plenty of recipes are easy enough for the kids to help you make. I recommend Pinterest to find recipes that your entire family will love. Here are some of my favorites! They are all fairly easy to make, the bloody cupcakes are the most tedious to make.

Online Meetup

If you have older children, chances are they wish their friends could join in on the party fun. Use Zoom or even Facetime, and schedule a meetup for everyone. You can all watch a movie together or tell spooky stories. It’s also a fun way to check out everyone’s costumes. You could also play games with others online, your kids will enjoy having their friends “at the party.”

 

Trick-or-Treat Scavenger Hunt

Just because you’re having Halloween at home doesn’t mean that the kids can’t still get candy! Make it fun by creating a scavenger hunt. Each location can lead to candy, or the final destination can be candy-filled. Or each child can pick out candy after they find items on their list. There are so many ways to make the candy hunt a blast. You can easily create your own scavenger hunt in Microsoft Word, or check out the hunt that I created below.

Bonfire

A perfect ending to an amazing Halloween party is a bonfire. Gather around, roast marshmallows, or make yummy smores while telling spooky stories. If your kids are scared of spooky or the dark, just enjoy being outside together and tell funny stories while enjoying all the Halloween treats and goodies.

10 Fun Fall Activities for Families

Fall is probably my favorite season. Summer is way too humid where I live, and fall is a very welcoming relief of crisp, cool air. Despite the coronavirus pandemic causing so many changes in the world, that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy fun fall activities as a family. Here are 10 fun fall activities that you can still do with your family while enjoying the lovely fall season.

  • Look at leaves– Take a small road trip to go see beautiful leaves changing colors. I love going to the mountains to experience all of the scenic fall beauty.

  • Pumpkin Patches– Many pumpkin patches will still be open this fall. Masks may be required at some, it’s always a good idea to have a mask on hand wherever you travel to these days. Although hayrides and activities may not be taking place, as usual, you can still walk around and have fun picking out pumpkins. Several patches also have other goodies that you can shop for and take home with you, such as local honey, jams, peanuts, and more.

  • Bonfire– Having a bonfire is something that you can easily do at home. If you don’t have access to a fire pit, check with a relative or buy a small outdoor one. Make yummy apple cider or hot cocoa and enjoy smores by the fire. Kids really enjoy this. You can also check out the stars and tell stories. Bonfires are a great way to relax and connect together as a family.

  • Fall Baking- There are so many delicious fall recipes! Grab the kiddos and pick your favorite recipes, then start baking! You can plan a delicious baked goodie each week or every other week, however much you desire to bake!

  • Scavenger Hunt– You can do a scavenger hunt at home or at a pumpkin patch or farm. Print out your list and have prizes for the winners. My kids have always enjoyed scavenger hunts.

  • Pumpkin Carving– This is one of my kids’ favorite activities to do near Halloween. After we pick out our pumpkins, we carve and decorate them. It’s so much fun for everyone and we get to enjoy them as decor for several weeks.

  • Visit the zoo– If your local zoo is open, fall is a great time to visit. It won’t be hot outside and it won’t be as crowded as during the spring and summer months.

  • Crafts– Pinterest has numerous ideas for fun seasonal crafts and activities. Find some of your favorites and get to crafting! See who can make the coolest turkey or the spookiest pumpkin, your options are endless.

  • Start Planning a Halloween party– Trick-or-treating won’t be the same this year during a pandemic. Start planning a fun at-home Halloween party! Everyone will enjoy picking out their costumes and you can pick spooky music and movies.

  • Be thankful– not just on Thanksgiving but every day, we should be thankful for all that we have. Take the extra time to teach your kids about being thankful and how you can help someone in need as a family.

Many of these activities don’t cost a thing, and if they do it’s not too much. With easy planning, you and your family can enjoy these activities and have a fantastic fall season. Pandemic or not, we can still enjoy all the beauty that this life has to offer. Off to make some memories!

Okay, so the weirdest thing happened to me today. I was in the car talking to my husband, and I suddenly felt a kick in my stomach. It did not feel like gas or cramps, it felt like a baby just kicked my stomach from the inside. I have had four children, so I know exactly what baby movement feels like. My last baby is currently two years old and I have no plans to add to my brood anytime soon. I’m definitely not pregnant. …Right??!

 

I’ve heard about phantom kicks a time or two, but never experienced it or talked to anyone who had. I figured it was some weird made-up thing that was just all in the woman’s head or due to anxiety or other related issues. That is until today when I actually experienced it for myself. I was mid-sentence and felt the “kick,” it caught me off guard. My husband immediately said, “we need to go to the drugstore and get a test.” At this point, I was totally starting to freak out, as was he. Before saying anything else, I stopped to breathe and think a minute.

 

 

It feels like slight jabs, and bubbling quickening movements.

 

What do phantom kicks feel like you may ask? It feels like shortly after the first few movements of a baby in utero, slight jabs, and bubbling quickening movements. Well, my monthly visitor just left me yesterday so I know for a fact that I am for sure not pregnant. And it most definitely wasn’t implantation bleeding or rare early pregnancy bleeding. I’ve kept track of things and there’s no way I could be pregnant, let alone feeling movement from a baby this early on! So, of course, I went straight on to Google because I needed to figure this out ASAP. Turns out that phantom kicks are totally and completely a real thing.

 

Phantom pregnancies are also a thing too! A woman can actually convince herself and her body that she is pregnant. Weight gain, nausea, and other pregnancy symptoms can even occur in phantom pregnancies. Some women who have phantom pregnancies snap out of it after seeing an empty ultrasound and not hearing a heartbeat. Others, I’m not sure as I don’t know how long this condition can actually last. I’ve seen and heard it all now. Queue the shock, I’m just glad to know that I am not feeling a baby (or alien) kicking me, I’m not crazy, and there’s not something bad going on inside of my body. Plenty of other women have experienced these phantom kicks, I’m not alone. Phew!

 

What Causes Phantom Kicks

 

It is unknown as to why phantom kicks may occur in women. It does seem, however, to be more common in women who have had children. Though it can happen to any woman. If you’ve had a child, you can experience phantom kicks up to several years later. One woman felt phantom kicks 28 years after giving birth! Our bodies have already experienced kicks from babies in utero, which can possibly cause our brains to make us think that it is in fact a real kick. Some women experience the phantom kicks daily or weekly. Others maybe experience the phantom kicks once or twice a year. (If at all). I am hoping that I will fall into the once or twice a year category. After experiencing that today, I just don’t think that I could go through that every day or every week. It was quite an odd experience and it scared me to death making me think I was unknowingly pregnant or that something may even be wrong with me. If you want to learn more about this crazy condition, Monash University scientists in Australia conducted an online survey of 197 Australian women who had experienced pregnancy and recorded their phantom kick experiences. This is a great read to find out more about phantom kicks and the different situations in which women have experienced them.

Wrapping It Up

 

Phantom kicks aren’t a major thing to worry about and in most cases, feeling phantom kicks is considered normal. But when you experience them for the first time, they can be a bit alarming. The “kicks” can be problematic for a woman who has suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth previously. If you experience phantom kicks and it bothers you or upsets you, try reaching out and talking to someone. Whether it be a doctor, friend, or counselor, talking about it will help you to cope and to deal with it. Remember, if you experience phantom kicks, you are not alone and you are not crazy! Just another way of proving that women’s bodies are truly capable of anything. You are an amazing mama and woman.

Wrapping It Up

There are so many workout brands available and so many styles and options for workout clothes these days. Make sure to not just purchase based on a name brand. Read the description, try on if possible, and read reviews when available. You want to rock your workout and your workout wear should compliment that.

Some workout clothes (just like casual clothes) are worth a hefty price tag because of the brand and what they stand for. But sometimes you can find a much cheaper version that will work just as well. If you feel cute and confident in it, rock it! What you wear can help you achieve your healthy goals.
